Tofu is one of the building blocks of a healthy vegan diet. It's super versatile too, so good to stock up on.

Such a healthy option, tofu is full of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.
It's also low calorie and low fat.
Types of tofu
There are two main types of tofu, firm tofu and silken tofu.

Firm tofu is mainly used in savoury dishes where you need a firm texture.
Generally, it needs to be pressed to remove liquid, but if you buy extra firm tofu, it's ready-pressed so you can skip pressing it and just pat it with kitchen roll (kitchen paper) to absorb any excess liquid from the packet.
Silken tofu has a creamier texture and is the perfect choice when making creamy sauces or desserts.
