Vegan Orange Jelly Pots for an Easy Fruity Dessert

    Published: Feb 7, 2024 · Modified: Mar 14, 2024 by Jacqueline Meldrum · 8 Comments

Jelly & custard is such a nostalgic British dessert loved by kids & adults. These vegan orange jelly pots are an updated dairy-free version.

Vegan blood orange jelly pots for dessert.

These fruity jelly pots are my latest easy vegan dessert creation.

They give a real taste of childhood but they are a bit more refined.

I don't know about the birthday parties you went to as a child, but at the parties I went to the jelly and custard (or jelly and ice cream) were just dolloped into bowls, with more speed than elegance.

It was usually served in brightly coloured paper bowls too.

Did I care it was a bit slapdash? Heck no!

    🥣 Vegan jelly

I've always had a love/hate relationship with vegan jelly.

It's always so hard to find and then when you do find a good one, it's discontinued, like Hartley's glitter jelly powder.

I was so happy when I found that one, but it's long gone now.

I think we all appreciate Hartley's jelly pots which are suitable for vegans and low calorie, but sometimes you want a jelly you can make up to pour into glasses for a dessert or into a fruit trifle for Sunday dinner.

It's a real pity you can't buy vegan Hartley's jelly cubes.

    ⭐ New vegan jelly powder

I have some fabulous news! I found a new range of vegan jelly powders.

Vegan Jelly Powder in a sachet by Wibble.

They get a gold star for the name alone.

    WIBBLE!

    How cool is that?

The Wibble range of vegan jelly powders are low in sugar, have nothing artificial added and they are only 20 calories per serving.

The sachet makes 1 pint (450ml or 2 cups) of jelly.

I found them in Tesco, but they are also available from the Wibble website (I'm not working with them, I just found them last night in Tesco), Holland & Barrett (or maybe local health food shops), and on Amazon.

    They set really well too.

You can buy these jelly powders in strawberry, raspberry, forest fruit or orange flavour.

I used orange flavour jelly for these dessert jars.

👩🏻‍🍳 How do you make jelly from powder?

It's super easy to make up jelly from powder.

    Making jelly in a jug.
    • Pour the jelly powder into a large jug
    • Add boiling water - the sachet will give instructions for how much water to add
    • Stir well with a spoon until the powder has dissolved in the hot water
    • Pour into your glasses, jars or homemade trifle (try this Vegan Scottish Trifle or this single serving (very generous portion) Vegan Trifle with Microwave Sponge Cake)
    • Leave the jelly to cool and set for an hour at room temperature
    • Store in the fridge

If you love easy desserts like these orange jelly pots, try this vegan raspberry mousse made with fresh raspberries and silken tofu.

📋 What you need to make vegan orange jelly pots

Here are the simple ingredients you need to make this easy fruity vegan dessert.

Vegan Orange Jelly & Custard Pots.
    • Vegan jelly powder
    • Hot water
    • Blood orange - or clementine
    • Dairy-free custard - we like Alpro custard
    • Whipping cream - or double vegan cream ( we use Elmlea plant cream, which whips well)
    • Vanilla extract
    • Icing sugar - confectioner's sugar
    • Sprinkles - to serve

The full printable is at the end of this page after the step-by-step photos and contains the full ingredient list, method and tips.

🍊 Blood oranges or regular oranges

I used blood oranges for these jelly pots as they are in season right now, they are a beautiful colour and they are full of flavour.

    Blood orange segments.

    Instead, you could use:

    • Large jaffa orange
    • Clementimes
    • Mandarins
    • Easy peelers

Peel them, then either take as much pith off the oranges as possible and break them into segments or use a sharp knife to cut segments between the pith, which is how chefs do it.

Love citrusy desserts? Try my easy vegan lemon mousse next.

🥫 Can you use canned fruit?

You could definitely use tinned fruit for this easy vegan recipe.

Tinned fruit is packed when the fruit is ripe and in season, so it's a good option, especially if the fruit you want to use is out of season.

Tinned mandarins would work well in these jelly jars.

🍨 How to serve jelly pudding?

You probably don't need serving suggestions, but here we go.

Easy vegan orange jelly desserts in jam jars.

I serve these fruity puddings in clean jam jars, which I love as you can see the layers and they have a lid for storing them in the fridge.

You could also layer up these easy vegan jelly desserts in a short glass, wine glass, dessert glass or bowl.

Or you could make it up in the jug then serve it 1970s retro style, by dolloping it all in a bowl with no finesse whatsoever, but heck it will still taste good.

Maybe keep that for nights in alone and serve it all bonnie in glasses when you have guests.

    🌡️ Storing homemade jelly jars

Once you have made these layered vegan desserts you should chill them until you are ready to serve them.

Store them in the fridge for a couple of days.

They probably won't last that long.

    🥄 Low-calorie dessert

Each of these jelly dessert jars is only 156 calories, so great if you want a light dessert that's low in calories.

They taste luxurious though, totally lush!
