This creamy vegan lemon and chive dip is fresh, tangy, and ready in a few minutes. Made with a few dairy-free ingredients, fresh lemon juice and oniony chives, it's the perfect dip for crisps, Homemade Tortilla Chips, vegetable sticks and fries.

It also doubles as a delicious sandwich spread (try spreading it on this Gochujang Chickpea Sandwich), a burger topping or a quick salad dressing, so it's a handy recipe to have.

💭 Why use Vegan Mayonnaise & Yoghurt

They both bring something different to the party and work well together.

🍋 Always use Fresh Lemon Juice

It's tempting to keep a bottle of concentrated lemon juice in the cupboard to add to dishes, but fresh lemon juice is far superior and gives a better flavour every time.

  • Brighter taste
  • No artificial metalic aftertaste
  • Adds a fresh aroma
  • Balances out the creamy ingredients

💭 FAQs

Why is my dip runny?

If your yoghurt isn't thick, then the dip will be thinner, but you can thicken it by adding more mayo.

Why is my dip too thick?

If your dip is too thick you can thin it with a little plant-milk or for the texture of a salad dressing add some olive oil and whisk.

Why is it not lemony?

You may have used a small lemon or one that isn't very juicy. Either add more lemon juice or some lemon zest to increase the lemon flavour.

Why does it taste bland?

It probably needs for lemon and more seasoning.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoon vegan mayo
  • 2 tablespoon vegan plain or greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • a small handful of fresh chives
  • a good grinding of salt and pepper

Instructions

Keep screen on
  • Chop the chives finely.
  • Add all the ingredients to a small bowl or jug and
    mix well.
  • Taste to check the seasoning.
  • Serve with chips and enjoy!

Notes

  • Don't add any zest to this dip, it will look pretty but it will overpower
    all the other flavours.
  • You can actually substitute fresh chives with dried in this dish, as long as you make the dip ahead and leave it in the fridge for a while. Half a teaspoon of dried chives will be enough.
  • You can make a bigger batch of this dip, by doubling or tripling the recipe.
  • This dip can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days.
  • This dip is not great frozen and can become watery, so I don't recommend freezing it.

Oh yes a good idea. I like a pizza crust dip too. I think it was Dominos Pizza that got me hooked on it.
