💭 Are homemade vegan crackers easy to make?

Yep, homemade paprika crackers are super easy to make and they taste so good.

Much more flavour than any shop-bought crackers.

Just mix your dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, add the wet ingredients, bring it together with a quick knead, roll out and bake.

That's it!

Super simple to make.

💭 Shaped or snapped?

Now you need to decide shaped or snapped?

I baked my crackers in one sheet and snapped them so they looked more rustic and homemade, but you can cut them with cookie cutters.

It's up to you!

🥘 Ingredients for plant-based crackers

Here are the simple ingredients you need to make these crispy crackers.

paprika.
  • Gram flour
  • Baking powder
  • Paprika
  • Dried oregano
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper
  • Sesame seeds
  • Maple syrup
  • Oil
  • Water

See the printable recipe card below for quantities. method and calories.

💭 Gram flour FAQs

Let me explain a little about gram flour in case you haven't used it before.

What is gram flour?

Gram flour, also known as besan, garbanzo flour or chickpea flour, is a flour made from ground chickpeas.

It is used in Indian and Middle Eastern cooking and it's naturally gluten-free.

Chickpea (gram) flour.

Is gram flour high in protein?

Yes, gram flour is very high in protein, making it a good option in baking and cooking.

It has 21g of protein in just one cup and also contains fibre, folate, copper and manganese making it good for your heart and digestive system.

Can you use other flour instead of gram flour?

Yes, you can use plain or wholemeal flour instead of gram flour, although it isn't as nutritious and they are not gluten-free.

📖 Variations

Here are a few tweaks you can make to these air fryer crackers.

  • Plain flour - instead of gram flour
  • Chilli powder - added for a bit of heat
  • Flax seeds - extra seeds
  • Pumpkin seeds - for more texture

👩🏻‍🍳 Rolling tips

Here are my tips for rolling the vegan cracker dough.

rolling cracker dough
  • First, divide your cracker dough into three pieces.
  • Place the dough between two pieces of non-stick baking paper, to prevent sticking.
  • Press down with your hand to flatten, then roll with a rolling pin.
  • You want the cracker dough to be fairly thin.

🍴 How to stop the crackers puffing up

If you bake the cracker dough after it is rolled out, it can puff up during baking.

To prevent this, prick the dough all over with a fork.

🍪 Air frying crackers

If you are baking these crackers in the air fryer, be aware of the size.

paprika crackers served with vegetables and vegan pate

Baking in the oven gives you that bit more room to bake a bigger slab of these homemade vegan biscuits.

Measure your air fryer and cut the rolled-out slabs so they will fit.

Bake them on the non-stick baking paper you rolled the dough out on.

Also, try air fryer Italian chickpeas, air fryer apple Danish pastries and quick air fryer Biscoff cookies.

🍪 Oven-baked crackers

If you are baking these in the oven you can bake them on a large baking tray.

They will take a few minutes longer to bake than they do in the air fryer.

💭 How to store

These vegan-friendly crackers can be stored in an airtight container once they are cool.

These easy gram crackers will stay crisp for a few days.

They still taste good later on in the week, but they won't be as crisp.

Don't store them in the fridge as they will definitely lose their crispness.

🥂 How to serve air fryer crackers

Here are a few serving suggestions for these crispy crackers.

  • Cream cheese - spread with vegan cream cheese
  • Chutney - serve them with vegan cheddar and chutney (try this easy red chilli garlic chutney)
  • Pate - serve with a vegan pate (try this white bean & olive pate)
  • Soup - serve with soup (try them with sweet potato & butternut squash soup)
  • Wine - serve as a savoury nibble with wine

Ah ok, what I would do is look at the email you receive, there should be a link to unsubsribe from the thread/recipe comments. It might be right at the bottom in small text. I have to admit I have accidentally done this myself on another site.
