⭐ Why You'll Love This Wrap

  • Ready in minutes
  • No cooking, if you use shop-bought bhajis
  • Packed with flavour and texture
  • Easy to vary the flavours
  • Perfect for packed lunches
  • Good for a light dinner with a dressed salad and a few crisps (chips)
  • Colourful and satisfying
  • A tasty alternative to sandwiches

💭 What Does It Taste Like?

This gorgeous wrap is a delicious mixture of crunchy, soft, sweet and savoury layers. The onion bhajis have the warmth of Indian spices, the chutney brings a tangy sweetness, the salad leaves are peppery, and the salad vegetables bring a fresh crunch. Every bite is packed with flavour.

📋 What You Need To Make This Lunch Wrap

These flavourful wraps made with onion bhajis, salad, and a tasty sauce come together like a symphony.

Find the full ingredient list with quantities in the recipe card.

Onion bhaji wrap ingredients including flour tortillas, bhajis, salad veg, cheese & chutney.
  • Onion Bhajis - you can use shop-bought or Homemade Bhajis
  • Salad Veg - you can vary the salad vegetables you add
  • Chutney - this can be swapped out with sweet chilli sauce (try this Sweet Chilli Jam) or even apricot jam; you want a sauce with a bit of sweetness to complement the spices

💭 What are Onion Bhajis?

If you are a fan of Indian food, you will know just what these savoury snacks are, but if not, I should explain.

They are a popular street food that's often served as a starter in Indian restaurants, a crispy fritter of onions in a crunchy batter made with gram flour (chickpea flour).

💭 Why Onion Bhajis Work so Well in Wraps

  • Full of spiced flavours
  • Easy to buy ready-made or you can make them yourself
  • They add texture and crunch
  • More filling than salad alone
  • Something a bit different

They are also good in a sandwich; try this Onion Bhaji Sandwich with curried slaw.

Jac's Top Wrapping Tip

💭 How to wrap with lots of filling

These are packed and need to be wrapped tightly. Add the filling to the centre of the wrap, fold the side partially over the filling, pull the bottom over the filling and use it to pull the filling tightly towards you, then roll and cut in half.

🥕 Which Vegetables work well in this Wrap?

  • Grated carrot
  • Grated beets
  • Shredded cabbage
  • Sliced red onion
  • Thinly sliced radishes
  • Salad leaves
  • Spinach
  • Torn kale
  • Sliced spring onions (green onions)

They say to eat the rainbow, and you can certainly do that with this plant-based lunch wrap.

👩🏻‍🍳 Can you Make these Ahead?

Yes, these can be made the night before. Here are a few tips.

  • Dry the grated vegetables and salad leaves well
  • Wrap them tightly
  • Next, wrap tightly in parchment paper (baking paper) or foil
  • Keep chilled in the fridge

💭 FAQs

Why is my wrap falling apart?

It's either filled too full, not wrapped tightly enough, or the tortilla wrap is too small to hold the filling.

Why is my wrap soggy?

It could be the grated vegetables or salad were not dried properly, you added too much chutney, or it has been sitting too long.

Why does my wrap taste dry?

You need more mayo or chutney to prevent a dry wrap.

You can make it yourself. Just finely slice onions, then make a batter with gram flour (made from ground chickpeas), spices, a little baking powder and add water to make a batter. Dip handfuls of onion in the batter then fry in semi-deep oil.
