Vegan Snickers is a healthy version of a Snickers bar made with dates. This easy recipe went viral on TikTok and they taste amazing!

OK, so I hold my hands up and admit I spend a silly amount of time on TikTok.
It's just such a fun way to waste a bit of time if you're hanging about or just chilling for a while. Bite-sized videos that are fun and often very informative too.
This recipe was inspired by (many) creators on TkTok who made a version of these vegan Snickers bars which are made with dates. I salute them!
It's not always easy to find a recipe, so I thought I'd try these out myself and share the recipe with you.

🎥 Are TikTok recipes any good?
Hell yes, there's lots of fabulous content on Tiktok for vegans.
It's a great place to go for inspiration or just chill time.
I have to say there are exceptions though.
Surely you've seen or heard about the viral feta and cherry tomato pasta bake? It was huge.
And yes it's perfect for vegetarians, but unfortunately not a great one for vegans.
Why? Well, vegan feta (at least all the types I have tried) is great on salads or added to tarts or pasta as you serve them, but pop it in the oven and it turns to oil.
Not really what you want on your pasta.

🍫 So what are these healthy snickers bars?
You are going to love them. They are lush!
Keep a plate of these date Snickers in the fridge for a guilt-free treat whenever you get a chocolate craving.
This healthy version of a Snickers bar is made with stuffed dates coated in chocolate and topped with crunchy peanuts.
💭 Are these Snicker bites gluten-free?
Yup, completely gluten-free.
No hidden nasties to trip you up.
⭐ Why are date Snickers so good?
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
- Made with just 4 ingredients
- Super easy to make
- They taste amazing, that perfect combo of sweet and salty
- Healthier as a snack than a chocolate bar
- You know what's in them
- Oh yeah Baby, they're vegan!
Also, try my fabulously easy vegan bounty bars. Mmmm they are good.
💭 What type of dates?
To make this copycat version of that famous chocolate bar (which used to be called a Marathon in the UK) you need Medjool dates.
They are darker than other dates and they are sweet and delicious.
💭 Can you use any dates in the Snickers recipe?
No, it has to be Medjool dates.
The reason why Medjool dates are so good and perfect for this recipe is that they taste and almost have the texture of toffee or caramel.
Don't use any other type of dates if you want it to taste like Snickers.
💭 Are dates a healthy option?
Absolutely!
Dates are a healthy choice when you want something sweet.
- They have natural sugars, which will give you an energy boost that will last, and not one of these sugar spikes that give you a quick boost then you're soon dipping and needing another sugar fix.
- Rich in antioxidants.
- Full of fibre which is good for gut health
- Mineral-rich for strong bones

🌡️ A word of warning
Some people are allergic to dates, so if you've not tried them before and have an itchy tongue, runny nose or sneezing after eating them, you may have an allergy to them.
It's rare, but it does happen.
If you've eaten them before and were fine, then you don't need to worry.
Also, as this recipe contains peanuts it's not one for those with a nut allergy.
🥜 Go peanut crazy!
These vegan candy bars have all the nuts.
Well, all the peanuts.
But not Snoopy! Don't you just love snoopy? Anyway back to the topic at hand. Mmmm maybe I could replicate a Topic bar next.... Jac, get a grip! Back to the recipe.
They contain both salted peanuts and peanut butter.
The nuts are roughly chopped for a bit of crunch.
🍫 You need dark chocolate
These Snickers bites are coated in a generous covering of melted dark chocolate.
Melt either dark chocolate bars broken into chunks or dark chocolate chips.
🍫 Is dark chocolate suitable for vegans?
Many types of dark chocolate are NOT suitable for vegans.
You would think they should be right?
I mean it is dark chocolate, so there shouldn't be any milk in there.
But they always sneak it in, don't they?
So, if you don't know the brand of chocolate is definitely suitable for vegans, then check the ingredient list.
🥛 It says may contain milk
Don't worry, as long as you don't have a severe allergy, then you will be ok.
It just means that other products made in the same factory include milk as an ingredient, but lines are cleaned between products and many have dedicated lines for each product.
It's more to protect themselves legally.
🍫 Melting chocolate
Melt the chocolate in the microwave or in a bain-marie.
- If you are melting the chocolate in the microwave - zap it in quick blasts for between 1-2 minutes.
- Stir as you go, checking on it, so you don't overcook it.
- If you are melting the chocolate in a bain-marie - you want a small pot of gently simmering water with a bowl that will sit above it, but will not touch the water (or the chocolate will seize).
- The steam from the water will melt the chocolate gently. Stir it as it melts.
🍫 Tip for coating dates in chocolate
Here is my easy tip for coating dates in chocolate.
Two forks. That's it.
The fork prongs cradle the dipped date gently, while the excess melted chocolate pours through the prongs.
Easy and mess-free.
🌡️ Pop them in the fridge
Once dunked in chocolate, place these stuffed dates on a lined baking tray and pop them in the fridge to set.
Once they are set, you can store them in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a week.

Step 1
- Line a baking tray (or small sheet pan) with non-stick baking paper
- Chop the nuts roughly (you can chop them finer than I have if you like)
- Cut into the dates (lengthways but not all the way through) and remove the stones. You can discard these.
Step 2
- Fill the open (stone removed) dates with peanut butter and top with chopped nuts.
- Set them aside while you deal with the chocolate.
Step 3
- Melt the chocolate.
- Dip the filled dates in the melted chocolate and place on the lined baking tray.
- See the recipe card below for tips.
Step 4
- Top the chocolate enrobed dates with chopped nuts.
- Pop the tray in the fridge to let the chocolate set.
- Cut one in half (or bite in) and bask in the glory of being a kitchen goddess.
- Enjoy them.

📖 Recipe
Vegan Snickers
Ingredients
- 12 Medjool dates (has to be medjool for that caramel flavour)
- 9 teaspoons peanut butter (crunchy or smooth and feel free to use a bit more)
- 2 tablespoons salted peanuts
- 200 g dark chocolate chips (or dark chocolate broken into chunks)
Instructions
- Melt the chocolate in the microwave or a bain-marie (see notes below for tips).
- Roughly chop the peanuts.
- Cut the dates in half lengthways (not all the way through) and remove the stone.
- Add a spoonful (probably less than one teaspoon) of peanut butter to each open date and gently squeeze them a little so you have a little stuffed parcel. Peanut butter should still show in a line along the top.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts over the peanut butter showing at the top of the stuffed dates, for extra crunch.
- Use two forks (one in each hand) like scoops or a digger scoop to lift the dates (don't prong them, just let them rest in the cradle you have created) and lower them into the melted chocolate, then cover with chocolate.
- Lift the chocolate covered dates out of the chocolate, stoppping momentarily above the chocolate, to allow excess chocolate to drip through the fork prongs back into the bowl.
- Place the chocolate-covered dates on the lined baking tray and sprinkle with more nuts.
- Pop the tray in the fridge to allow the chocolate to set.
- Try not to eat any until the chocolate has set.
- Enjoy!
Notes
- If you are melting the chocolate in the microwave - zap it in quick blasts for between 1-2 minutes.
- Stir as you go, checking on it, so you don't overcook it.
- If you are melting the chocolate in a bain-marie - you want a small pot of gently simmering water with a bowl that will sit above it, but will not touch the water (or the chocolate will seize).
- The steam from the water will melt the chocolate gently. Stir it as it melts.

omg can't believe it.. I had a sweet tooth and came across this recipe on tiktok, i compromise on the ingredients. I use extra chunky peanut butter so the nuts was already in there. I almost bit my hands off eating them.
Thanks, cant believe it taste better than snickers

Haha, I am so glad you enjoyed them and yes they are good.
